Happy New Year Tom and Bill,
The CYC Luders 16 Fleet is convening a fleet meeting tomorrow night.
One of the items on the agenda is your MDI Invitational. There are
several questions which have come up in anticipation of the meeting.
As Fleet Secretary I've been asked to see what I can find out:
1. Do you have any idea how many boats might be available for
Chicago teams? As I've already written to you, I am almost certain
that we would field at least one team. However there is a good
chance there may be a total of 2 or 3 teams that would like to come.
We'd like to use some of our summer races here in Chicago to compete
for the honor to come to Maine, and it would be a help if we had some
idea of the number of spots for which we would be competing.
2. Will the regatta be organized like the L-16 Internationals are
(and for that matter, like the first L-16 event which was the
Nationals you all hosted in 1947)? I.e. will there be a lottery for
boats, with the proviso that skippers may not compete in their own
boat?
3. Why are you thinking of not allowing competitors to use their own sails?
We are all excited about your plans for this summer. Thoughts of
sailing seem a bit far off right now with the temperature in the
teens!
Best,
Bill
>>>>Dear Luders Sailors:

>>>>The Mount Desert Island Luders Fleet, with the help of members of
>>>>the Frenchman Bay Luders Fleet, and under the sponsorship of the
>>>>Southwest Harbor Fleet of Maine, is proposing a L16 Invitational
>>>>Meet on the weekend after Labor Day, 2007, in commemoration of
>>>>the staging of the first L16 Nationals held here in 1947.
>>>> Specific arrangements will be worked out in detail over the
>>>>winter months, but at this stage of planning it would be helpful
>>>>to obtain expressions of interest in participating in such an
>>>>event. The Fleet would welcome participation not only from fleets
>>>>and L16 owners who are currently racing, but also from L16 owners
>>>>who previously raced and would like to resume racing. The Fleet
>>>>expects to have in the neighborhood of 15 to 20 boats available,
>>>>and in addition to supplying supplementary crew where needed,
>>>>would also extend an offer of hospitality to visiting sailors. It
>>>>is not envisioned that participants would bring sails.
>>>> Please indicate by return e mail your interest in this or
>>>>possible future events in Maine. Please also include brief
>>>>information about your L16 experience and activities. Selection
>>>>criteria will be devised based on the interest shown. We look
>>>>forward to sharing our beautiful sailing environment with fellow
>>>>Luders owners.
>>>>
>>>>(A Notice of Race is being developed to provide additional information.)
